Call Meeting to Order
Deputy Mayor, D. MacInnis, Chair, called
the meeting to order at 3:45 PM.
Approval of Agenda
Moved by Deputy Mayor D. MacInnis

“That the Agenda be approved as
circulated.” Motion carried.
Approval of Minutes

Business from Minutes

Sports Field Update
Ms T. Cameron, Recreation Director,
advised that they are applying for funding through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities
Agency. Both Corporate and community fundraising has begun. Discussion took
place over using the Memorandum of Understanding for ST.F.X. turf
field as an addendum in our funding application.
The trail connecting Town and County will
not occur during the initial stages of the project however the trail within the
Town boundaries will go forward.

Olympic Torch Update
Ms. T. Cameron reported that the Olympic
Torch Committee has the ability to apply for $15,000.00 in funding from the
Federal Government. Ms. I. MacLeod has agreed to Chair the Committee.

Wellness Program:
The clinical visit for the Town of Antigonish has been canceled due to
low registration.
·
Columbus Field
Ms. T. Cameron inspected the field with
project manager Mr. K. Riley. It was felt by both parties that even with the
Town staff rolling the fields to level it off, more
work by MacNeils must be done in order to bring it up
to standards. Mr. K. Riley assured T.
Cameron that he would deal immediately with the matter.

Earth Day:
Attendance was low due to inclement weather.

Summer Camp
The
Town has been approved for a grant for our summer camps. There are two instructor positions available
for the summer camps. The jobs have been posted in The Casket this week.

Arborist
The
Request for Proposals has gone out and will be in The Casket this week.

No correspondence received.
Other Business
·
Equipment Shed
Ms.
T. Cameron received a quote for smoke damage to the equipment shed in the
amount of $2100.00. It is not in the budget to have the shed repaired. Also, if
groups are to store supplies in this shed, they need to have insurance on their
equipment.

Active
Transportation
Upcoming
Active Transportation workshop, June 15 & 16, 2009, featuring speaker Mike
Haynes, will be offered to the community and municipal representatives on June 15,
2009, and then to potential municipal committees on June 16, 2009.

June Recreation
Month
Ms.
T. Cameron is planning a Run, Walk and Roll on June 13, 2009. Families will be
invited to walk around the Landing and then meet at the Columbus Field for more
activities.

Whidden’s Playground
It
was agreed that the Recreation Capital will be used this year on Whidden’s Playground. Ms. T. Cameron will look into a sign
for closing playgrounds in residential areas at 9:00 PM, repair of the existing
fence, a new bench and possible upgrades to the existing equipment. Youth using
the area after those hours will be dealt with by the RCMP.
