Antigonish Regional Development Authority

The Antigonish Regional Development Authority (ARDA) is a publicly-funded organization set up to assist local community and business interests in more effectively understanding and managing change. The organization provides services that meet the needs of local business, community groups and local government. Community economic development is based on the philosophy that "the common interests of the many are more important than the vested interests of a few."

The following is a Vision Statement put forth by the ARDA:

"We see Antigonish Town and County as a Regional Centre that is a friendly, caring and safe place to live. The area is rich in culture, recreation, sports, natural beauty and renewable resources. Development and growth enhance the quality of life for all parts of the community. Economic growth matches or exceeds the national average. The result is a rural - urban balance with self reliance, year-round work and local input to the management of community change. The area's educational and health institutions provide amenities and services that are customer driven and the envy of smaller communities across Canada. The diversified economy builds upon local institutions and increasingly focuses on sustainable, value-added and knowledge-based activities in the global marketplace."
