Mayor's Welcome

A Welcome from Mayor Carl Chisholm

As mayor of the Town of Antigonish I extend to you a warm welcome or as the local Scots would say, Ciad Mille Failte (One Hundred Thousand Welcomes). I assure you that if you take advantage of our hospitality you will be well rewarded no matter how long your stay with us turns out to be.

Antigonish is a picturesque town located midway between Halifax and Sydney on the Trans-Canada Highway. It's home to St. Francis Xavier University and is a market and service centre for the surrounding communities. It is well known for its recreational, entertainment, and cultural activities.

We have excellent accommodations, all of which are within walking distance of downtown. We have three motels, a number of B&B’s and a beautiful family campground located in the centre of Town. There are a variety of eating establishments. They range from coffee shops and fast food to family dining and fine dining.

In July of each year we are proud to host the Antigonish Highland Games, which is the oldest games of its kind, held outside of Scotland. So if you enjoy the skirl of the pipes, highland dancing and the heavy athletic events, Antigonish is the place to be at that time of the year.

While visiting our town take time out to visit the campus of Saint Francis Xavier University, the Keating Millennium Centre, St. Ninian’s Cathedral Church, the Antigonish Mall, or many of our downtown retail outlets. Also if time permits enjoy a game of golf at one of our two golf courses in the area.

We hope you enjoy your stay and have a chance to return or pass on to a friend the great experience you had while visiting us.
