In the fall of 2021, both Town and County Councils voted to explore the potential for the two municipal units to become one. The next part of the exploration phase involves hearing from you, the residents of Antigonish. The schedule for Community Engagement is now available on www.antigonish.ca. This is the opportunity for us to hear feedback, questions, and concerns.

The Town and County have set up a website where we will be updating information regularly related to consolidation. On this website, you will find a FAQ, as well as a link to a forum where you can participate in online discussions with us and other residents. To visit this website, click here.

We have also set up two phone lines for residents who would prefer to call, leave a voicemail with their question, and then a staff member will follow up. Residents can phone 1-833-563-2786 or 1-833-563-2787.

Update: April 22, 2022

The Town and Municipality of the County of Antigonish are in the process of holding public consultation sessions as they explore the possibility of consolidation.

As of late this week, several Council members of both the Town and County have tested positive for COVID-19. Out of an abundance of caution, and to allow those affected to complete their isolation periods and recover, all sessions currently planned for the week of April 25 will be rescheduled to May.

Sessions to be rescheduled include:

  • Havre Boucher on Monday, April 25
  • Two sessions at the Antigonish Legion on Tuesday, April 26
  • Lochaber on Wednesday, April 27
  • St. Andrews on Thursday, April 28

Dates for new sessions will be posted on www.antigonish.ca.
