A Message from Town Council

We know how much the people of the Town of Antigonish care about our community. Whether it's safe streets, reliable services, or spaces that bring us together, we all want the town we call home to be well taken care of.

Our budget reflects that shared commitment. It focuses on taking care of what we already have, planning ahead, and keeping our community running smoothly for years to come.

At a Glance: What’s in the Budget

Every year, Council reviews the full picture of the Town's needs, from basic services to long-term improvements. This year, we've approved:

  • $17.9 million in operating costs (day-to-day services and support)
  • $19.5 million in capital work (long-term infrastructure and upgrades)

These investments are based on the real needs of our community and include:

  • Complete upgrades to West Street (finishing work from James Street to Highland Drive)
  • Upgrades to West Street (from Old Hwy 104 to James Street) - not just paving, but also new underground water and sewer systems, curbs, sidewalks, and stormwater improvements.
  • Finish the sidewalk on Greening Drive and build a new sidewalk on Pleasant Street to new to improve walkability and accessibility
  • Upgrades to the Sewer Treatment Plant
  • New water source wells
  • A strategic communications review and plan
  • A new Rain Barrel Rebate Program
  • Drainage improvements to the Splash Pad
  • Doubling street patching funding
  • Additional portable washrooms at the sports fields at the Regional with increased servicing
  • Repairs to banner poles
  • Active Transporatation Trail - St. Ninian Street
  • Designs for future infrastructure projects, including: James Street, Hawthorne Street, and new access street to hospital

These projects are important and overdue. That's why we're moving ahead now, with strong financial support from our provincial and federal partners to make it possible.
