Emergencies can happen at any time. Be ready to cope on your own for at least 72 hours before help arrives. When there is an emergency, such as a bad winter storm, hurricane, flood, or fire – you should be ready to cope on your own for at least the first 72 hours.
The Town of Antigonish works with the Fire Department, By-law Enforcement, and other protective services to keep residents safe, but being prepared at home is the best protection for you and your family.

Know the Risks
Risks can include, but are not limited to:

Think about:
- How long could you manage without power or water?
- Do you have extra medicine, food, and water?
- What if you had to leave home right away?
- Alternatively, what if you must leave your home in a hurry?
If authorities call an evacuation order, it means you must leave immediately because your home is at risk or no longer safe.
Make a Plan

- A personal support network (at least three trusted people who can help during an emergency; include someone outside the region if possible)
Keep copies of your plan:
- In your kit
- At home, at work, and in your car
- With your support network
