On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Antigonish Town Council gave First Reading to amendments to the Town’s Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use By-Law.
The purpose of these amendments is to modernize and align zoning regulations with current housing and development needs. The changes aim to increase housing options and affordability, support mixed-use development, clarify standards for accessory dwelling units, and update design and dimensional requirements to promote sustainable growth and efficient land use.
As required by the Municipal Government Act (MGA) the Town is hosting a public hearing on these proposed amendments on Tuesday, January 13 at 5:15 p.m. in Council Chambers, Town Hall (274 Main Streeet).
Following the public hearing, Town will consider, and if deemed appropriate, give second and final reading to adopt the amendments to the By-Law at the next regular council meeting on January 19, 2026.
