On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Antigonish Town Council gave First Reading to amendments to the Town’s Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use By-Law.
The purpose of these amendments is to modernize and align zoning regulations with current housing and development needs. The changes aim to increase housing options and affordability, support mixed-use development, clarify standards for accessory dwelling units, and update design and dimensional requirements to promote sustainable growth and efficient land use.
The Town intends to host a public hearing on these proposed amendments on Tuesday, January 13 at 5:15 p.m. in Council Chambers, Town Hall (274 Main Streeet).
Following the public hearing, Town will consider, and if deemed appropriate, give second and final reading to adopt the amendments to the By-Law at the next regular council meeting on January 19, 2026.
The amendments can be reviewed here: pdf Proposed Amendments - Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use By-Law(656 KB) .
