ANTIGONISH, July 13, 2026 The Town of Antigonish has awarded the tender for Screening and Aerations Upgrades for the Town’s Sewer Treatment Plant (STP) front end to Avondale Construction for an amount of $6,282,365.00 (+HST). This project will be jointly funded by a grant from the Province of Nova Scotia, The Town of Antigonish, and the Municipality of the County of Antigonish.
This project will provide a crucial upgrade to the Town’s STP. The screening upgrades will help improve the efficiency of the STP by not allowing materials that should not be flushed into the lagoon. These non-biodegradable materials block aerators and reduce oxygen in the lagoon. This project also includes two new high-capacity blowers that increase airflow to the aerators, which combined with less blockage will help maintain higher oxygen levels to improve the natural treatment process in the warmer months. With higher oxygen levels, the plant produces less odour.
