The Town of Antigonish and the Municipality of the County of Antigonish are partnering to make community recreation more accessible, efficient, and connected than ever before. Together, they are providing free access to PlayFinder, a shared digital hub designed to support local non-profit recreation groups, community organizations, and facilities across the region.
Through this regional collaboration, every non-profit recreation organization and facility in Antigonish Town and County - regardless of size or capacity - will now have access to modern tools for program discovery, registration, payments, scheduling, and facility bookings, all in one place. The platform also provides real-time insights to help organizations plan, operate, and grow.
“Volunteer-led groups are the backbone of recreation in Antigonish, and this partnership is about supporting them with the tools they deserve,” said Juanita Pelly, Town Councillor and Chair of the Town's Recreation Committee, “By providing PlayFinder at no cost, we are reducing administrative barriers and helping organizations focus on what matters most - serving the community.”
PlayFinder is a Nova Scotia–built social enterprise that has been evolving since 2019 in collaboration with community partners in Antigonish. Today, it empowers small and large organizations alike with streamlined operations, reduced manual workload, and meaningful data that communities can use to improve access to recreation and sport.
“PlayFinder is about making things easier for everyone,” says Marlene Melanson, Recreation Director for the Municipality of the County of Antigonish. “Residents can quickly see what’s happening across the County, and our non-profit organizations have a practical tool to share their programs. Having a place for people to visit to find out what is happening across the County is a win for everyone”
The Town and County’s joint investment ensures that non-profit groups will not pay to use the platform, removing financial and administrative barriers for the organizations that create so many essential opportunities for children, families, and adults in Antigonish.
“Our mission is simple: ACCESS,” said PlayFinder Representative Laura Duggan. “Access to information, access to opportunities, and access to the tools that help organizations thrive and make participation easier for everyone.”
