The Town of Antigonish has awarded five new tenders that move forward several key infrastructure projects in alignment with the Town’s Strategic Plan. These projects reflect ongoing efforts to renew and strengthen critical assets, including streets, sidewalks, and wastewater systems, while improving accessibility and safety in public spaces.
Asset management was ranked the top strategic priority by both Council and staff in the Town’s 2025 Strategic Plan, with sewer, water, and street infrastructure identified as the most critical areas for long-term investment. The latest tenders demonstrate continued progress in addressing overdue upgrades and ensuring reliable municipal services for residents.
Sewer Infrastructure Upgrades
West Street and James Street – Sewer Lining (Phase 1)
Awarded to Eastern Trenchless – $240,830.00
This project focuses on the trenchless rehabilitation of aging sanitary sewer mains, many of which are over fifty years old. Utilizing cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) technology, the project will extend the lifespan of existing infrastructure while minimizing disruptions. Inspection, cleaning, and testing will ensure compliance with environmental and engineering standards.
Wastewater Lagoon Aeration Equipment Upgrade
Awarded to Nexom – $$138,100.00
This project involves upgrading aeration equipment at the Town’s multi-cell wastewater lagoon. The new system will improve treatment performance and energy efficiency while integrating with the existing facility.
Sewer Treatment Plant Screening Equipment Pre-Purchase (Screening Equipment)
Awarded to Veolia Water Technologies – $671,409.50
This project covers the supply, delivery, and commissioning of screening equipment for the Antigonish Wastewater Treatment Plant. This equipment will help prevent solid materials, such as wipes, pads, and other non-biodegradable items, from entering the lagoon. This will help protect the plant's equipment, reduce smells, and improve overall treatment.
Street Renewal
West Street Phase 1 – Sidewalks and Paving
Recreation and Accessibility Improvements
Central Turf Field Accessible Path and Viewing Pad
Security Fencing at Columbus Field and Public Works Building Yard
Ongoing Infrastructure Progress

Construction on these projects will begin in the coming weeks. Progress updates will be shared through the Town’s website and official social media channels.
